Soil Tests

Pearlington Clay is the largest supplies of clay for the New Orleans area.

In 2007, the New Orleans District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined the Pearlington Clay borrow area to be an acceptable choice as a source of contractor-furnished material in the construction of hurricane and storm damage reduction system levees.

Investigations prior to this determination, as well as in subsequent analyses of the soil properties, shows that most of the soils in the upper 30-40 ft. meet specifications of the parameters furnished by the New Orleans District Corps of Engineers for suitable levee fill.

Results of the reports are available below for review including soil descriptions and laboratory data expounding on compaction qualities, sieve analysis, moisture content, and other classifications.

Randomly selected data is for illustrative purposes only.
